You know those days where it feels like everything is coming together and going your way?
That’s how the Nike Women’s Half Marathon (NWM) was for me.
From packet pickup to post race festivities, I hardly have any complaints. It was all so efficient and smooth. Given that this was the inaugural race in DC, I was nervous that there would be some issues or kinks that would need to be worked out in following years.
The best part? I got to run with my best friend for the entire race. And now she’s addicted to half marathons. Mwuahaha.

We arrived to the start line with enough time to hit the bathrooms and get into our corrals. Once the gun went off we were in a sea of women (and a few men!) through the streets of DC. The course was similar to Cherry Blossom except at NWM you got to run around the Capitol building.
Water stations were all over the course. There was even a snack station with Luna bars. And I know they say to not try anything new on race day but I was pleased to have this since the gu’s were not holding me over.
Weather was perfect — sunny but not too warm. Ahh.
I want to run this race every weekend, that’s how much I loved it. It also didn’t hurt that they give out Tiffany’s necklaces as finisher medals.

Nike really delivered on this one and I would like to see other race companies follow suit in how to plan, organize, and execute a race. I know the cost to run is a bit steep ($150 and its a lottery registration) but you will not be disappointed.
Other best part about the race? I PR’ed. For this being my third official half marathon, I feel like the first two had some setbacks. The blisters and IT band issues of RnR Virginia Beach; the tummy troubles with ridiculous heat and humidity of the Princess race. This was honestly the first half in which I felt like I wasn’t going to die during or after the race, I felt strong the entire time and despite some minor chafing I left relatively unharmed.
All in all, it was amazing. Thank you Nike for putting together a great race!
